Downloads stalling

It seems after installing service pack 2 then finding out my assisted support
wil not cover my question I am turning to the board.

After the service pack 2 install, I noticed that several times during a
download near the end like .20 mg. out of 10.2 mg, the download will stall. I
have tried to delete the temp files clear the cache then try again. It will
still fail. I have checked my firewall, turned off the pop up blocker, etc.
The latest problem with this is at the "WINDOWS UPDATE SITE" I was trying to
install the critical .net package. It stalled just short seven or eight
times. I to this date can get the download.

It's possible that your IP is the culprit.
How and with what do you connect to the internet? Dialup, Cable, DSL,etc.
Do you use a router? If so, what model.

Each method has it's own little twist on things.

I too installed the service pak 2, my dad lives on the west coast he has been
diagnosed w/cancer we go to only one site and play games everynight, he is
taking chemo treatments so i look forward to this time and now since i have
this service pak 2 the pop window blocker will not allow me to play w/my
dad... i am so frustrated no help in sight. I was relying on this
communication w/my dad because i live so far away......and were not sure how
much time he has.....

There probably is a method of dis- engaging the popup window blocker
in service pack 2. If you cannot find it, I personally, would
uninstall service pack 2 in order to continue playin games with your

A bar appears under the address bar in IE whenever a popup is blocked or
whenever a plugin is blocked, click on it and it gives you a short menu with
options like "Allow only this popup" or "allow all popups" etc

Renie you can go into your internet options under your tools and click to
disable the built in pop up blocker

I did not notice this until after the service pack 2 update. I have not
altered or changed anything else in my network.
I have 4 systems on my network, two with Xp and the service pack 2. This
machine is the only one with the problem. This Machine custom Gateway, 1.3
gig processor,256 mgs rambus, nvidia pro 64 agp graphics card, 3Com EtherLink
10/100 pci model 3C905C-TX, one 200 gig Maxtor hard drive 8mb buffer with
four partitions, one 30 gig hard drive with clean full back up.
My service provider is sbc global. DSl service, Spped Stream 5360 dsl modem,
Lynksys Ether fast cable/dsl modem firewall router model BEFSX41. My pop up
blocker is turned off, firewall is set to allow.

have pretty much the same problem. Can download Win updates no problem but
when I want another file (eg., Winzip; Iomega ware; virus software), the
downloads start but then hang. I even reformatted and wiped out SP 2 and
have no firewall...same problem on this new machine. Erg! ANy luck?
