Double inboxes... No addresses..

There are apparently two different issues here...

1) Actually, overwriting one .PST file with another is *not* a good
idea...it often causes the "ghost" .PST issue which you are seeing (i.e. two
..PST files in your folder list which appear to be exact duplicates of each
other, yet you cannot close either one). Since Outlook can open a .PST file
from anywhere on your hard drive that you have permission to access, you can
just put your preferred .PST wherever you want it, tell Outlook to use that
one as your default, and close the other one.

The easiest way to get rid of the "ghost" in this case is to create a new
mail profile from scratch, and point it to your preferred .PST file. You
can set up the new profile via Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles.

2) The "missing address book" is a common occurrence when moving things
around -- the association between the Contacts folder and the Outlook
Address Book gets broken. To fix it, go to Tools | E-mail accounts, select
"View or change existing directories or address books", and click Next. If
you don't see the OAB in the Directories and Address Books list, click the
Back button, then select "Add a new directory or address book", then
"Additional Address Books", and add the OAB. Then keep clicking Back until
you get back to the first dialog box, and go back to the Directories and
Address Books list as you did earlier.

Once the OAB appears in the list, select it and then click Change to make
sure the Contacts folder(s) you want to display are listed. If any of them
aren't listed, you'll need to enable those Contacts folders as Outlook
Address Books by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, clicking
the Outlook Address Book tab, and checking the "Show this folder as an
E-mail address book" box. Make sure you restart Outlook after making these
changes.

Had to install Office2003 on my new PC.... managed to get all my mails there
via the old .pst file replacing the the newly created one etc. Thanks for
that tip!!!

Now, I have my own Inbox and folders twice ........ delete a mail from one
deletes from the other too etc. Files coming in are in both. How do I kill
off one lot please? I'm the only user on this PC.......

Contacts are available, but when I try to browse the Address Book, I'm told
the file doesn't exist :-(

The contacts are all there etc as I can see them!!! How can I use them in
email?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

OK!

I saw that info here the other day just before I was going to post the same
question before getting my new PC (arrived today). Can't remember who posted
it but will endeavour to find the original post...

Thanks for the link!

Many thanks!!

Will do what you suggest in the morning confident that it will be OK!

Thanks!
