Double identities

I had to reinstall Windows XP a couple of days ago. Today I found out that the Documents and Settings folder had two identities in it

John C. Moor
an
John Moor

The latter is the newest. I'm not sure how to handle this. Can I safetly delete the older identity? Is this the reason I get two of the same e-mails in Outlook when I send and receive? Any help would be appreciated
