DOS from Windows XP and running dBase IV .1 indexing

I have a problem running the indexing mechanism of dBase
IV .1 program (very old) on the DOS environment of
Windows XP. It always crashes when its comes to re-
indexing my existing files...
Can anyone help me??

What version of dBase? IV 1.5 had a bug that means reindex won't work on
fast processors (over 20Mhz IIRC)
