Can any body tell me why some XP workstations experience
slow loggons to a W2K domain controller. These are not
roaming profiles.

Thanks
Merlyn

You need to make sure you have configured the XP clients to point to the
DNS server that contains the SRV records for the domain and NOT and ISP DNS
server.

The DNS entry is correct it points to our internal DNS
Server. note: It seems to be mostly laptops that have
this problem and only 1 or 2 workstations all have XP
Pro. It's as if they try bring down a profile each time
but I am not using roaming profiles or they are having a
problem authenticating.

details a possible fix for this. Trouble is, they know
about it and need us to call them, pay $297AU and be told
where to download the hotfix from. Not happy at all.
We have twelve machines now doing this. They were fast as
can be, now domain members are taking ten minutes plus to
log on. DNS is perfect.

Thank Tony for the info. I agree it's a big ask for us to
pay for a fix to known error with the OS.
for myself,Tony and anybody else who is having this
problem, does anybody have this fix we can access ?

Many Thanks
Merlyn

if you have any computers under warranty with say, Dell, you can call them and tell them you need to get this fix from Microsoft. They will contact them and get it for you. Just tell them it is the exact problem you are having and you won't have a problem.
