Do I have SP2 or not?

I run XP Professional and have Automatic Update configured as "Download
updates for me, but let me choose when to install them".

Today I experience problems with sending/retrieving emails, have made no
changes I am aware of, my providers have no reported problems. I was
wondering if SP2 has installed without my knowledge despite my setting
above, and that this is causing the problem.

I have 20 Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) entries in the installed programs list,
but no Security Center etc. reported to show up. Does this mean I do not
have SP2 and have to search somewhere else for the problem?

Cheers, Thorbjorn

The fact that you are still seeing the 20 or so hotfix entries indicates
that you do not have SP2. All of those hotfixes are rolled up into SP2
and will no longer be shown as separate entries after SP2 is installed.
Additionally, you can open System in the Control Panel. On the
general tab it will indicate whether you are running SP1, SP2 or the
original (no sp).

Being as you have to agree to the EULA before SP2 will install, it's
doubtful that you've installed SP2 unless you sleep walk or suffer from
brain fog.

When you reboot or boot up, if you have SP2, you will no longer see
"Professional" on the splash screen prior to your log on and desktop.

I, too, have some "SP2" updates listed in Add/Remove but I know I haven't
downloaded *the* SP2.

Try control panel > system > general or windows key + pause/break

That applet will tell you if you have SP2 installed. However, the presence
of many hotfixes labeled (SP2) in the installled programs list indicates
that you don't have SP2 installed, and that you have some other problem.

These are fixes you already have that were to be contained in SP2. When
you get SP2, the current hotfix entries will go away, and there will be only
one entry-for SP2.
