I have spent the last 2 hours creating a document that I didn't save.

Can it be recovered?

Sorry, if you didn't save then there's nothing to recover.

Don't know about modern versions of Word but trusty old Word 97 has an
option to "Save Autorecover info every:" and user can select time interval.
This provides at least some information that Word can recover in certain
circumstances. Not foolproof of course and no substitute for regular saving
of work in progress.

For what happened to "enquirer", AutoRecover would have been
completely useless. As soon as you exit Word normally, the AutoRecover
information is deleted -- it hangs around if Word crashes, which is
the only way it's useful. See
