Hi group

WinXP Professional
New computer
Dialup connection to ISP
56k modem

This computer keeps dialing into and connecting with my ISP without m
telling it to

I click disconnect, walk away and 20 seconds later it's dialing in again

My guess is that there is some piece of software somewhere that is checkin
for updates or something

But then I picked the wrong horse in the Kentucky Derby too

Has anyone else experienced this or can someone advise me on how to end it
Without unpluging the modem

Thanks to you all

Mik

Hi Mike,

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

You can delete any TCP/IP addresses that you see under this key. Note that
AutoDial can use IP addresses, DNS fully qualified domain names (FQDN), and
NetBIOS names.

Disable "Log on using dial-up connection" (Line 77)

spybot safer-networking.org to rid yourself of these
and other problems..
or ad-aware lavasoftusa.com

Hi,
No I don't have any games or such.
This is a brand new box and the only software I have put on it is my
accounting stuff and a printer.
The only preloaded software is the OS. I think.
