Hi,
I would like to know is there a way that you could increase the DHCP lease
time ?. I have Windows XP PRO and Road Runner. I tried WNTIPCFG.EXE +
IPCONFIG.EXE but no luck. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks.

As you saw by the other responses, the only way to increase your DHCP Lease
Time is if you control the DHCP server in question.

Greeting,
I have a SMC Barricade DSL/Cable Router. When I try to renew
the IP address from DHCP server with the router, the server extends the
lease time 10 times more. When I try to do that without the DSL/Cable router
the DHCP server only gives me an hour.
I am wondering if I am mistaken about what really happened with the server,
or I could be wrong about the Specs of RFC #1533 related to the DHCP server.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks.

I suppose you are referrig to the following section:

9.2. IP Address Lease Time

This option is used in a client request (DHCPDISCOVER or DHCPREQUEST)
to allow the client to request a lease time for the IP address. In a
server reply (DHCPOFFER), a DHCP server uses this option to specify
the lease time it is willing to offer.

You may want to read up more here:
http://www.nilo.org/docs/c309.html

If I had to guess, you originally signed up and connected with your
DSL/Cable Modem Router - perhaps even giving the company (ISP) in question
the MAC address associated with your Router. It is entirely possibly that
the MAC address of the router in question is assigned a specified lease time
seperate from that of other "unknown" MAC addresses, such as your computer
being directly hooked into the Cable Modem/DSL connection.

The different clients may be given different leases by
definition, or they may be different in whether they
simply request a lease or make a request with a desired
lease length.
