DHCP/ICS Stops working After Installing XP SP2?

N

Neil Robinson

Hi

I have a home computer, with ICS enabled, to which I have connected my
laptop (with XOver cable) and shared its internet connection, files, etc.,
for several months.

Since I installed SP2, on both computers, ICS has stopped working?

On further investigation, the laptop client is not picking up an ip address
from my home computer via dhcp?

I've re-enabled UPNP on both computers (previously disabled) but still no
joy!

I've also shutdown Zone Alarm on the client with no result.

I believe the laptop is OK because I can connect to a broadband connection
at work, and other networks with no problem.

I don't want to use a static ip on the laptop unless absolutely necessary
because it worked, using dhcp, previously.

Can anybody help?

Both computers are XP Pro, both have been updated to SP2 and both use
ZoneAlarm firewall, (windows firewall is disabled).

Regards

Neil

(I am having issues with ICS myself)

Suggestion: SP2 has a built-in firewall. Check your firewall settings on
your network connections in the control panel. Make sure you have DHCP and
DNS checked under the firewall settings for the appropriate connections
(this will allow traffic on those ports which are needed for DHCP to work
properly). I am assuming that you have at least one connection that is
shared (that's what ICS is). Cheers!

I use Zone Alarm as a firewall so have disabled the Windows firewall on both
my Internet connection and the local area connection my laptop connects to.
However when I look at Advanced properties, for both network connections, it
says Windows firewall is enabled for both connections????? In any case, even
if it's still running, DNS & DHCP is enabled for the local area
connection????

Thanks for the suggestion anyway. It at least gave me renewed hope of
finding a fix. Cheers!
