When I want to open a program, I go to Start>Programs. I
have so many programs installed on my computer that there
isn't enough space on the desktop (17" screen; 800x600
resolution) to display them all. Is there another way of
viewing Programs that won't take up as much space on the
desktop?

TaskBar|Properties|Advanced|Settings and check the box for "Scroll the
Programs menu"

Another way of dealing with this is like so. Right-click on the desktop and choose | New | Shortcut. Let's say you would like all the programs in the All users section. You can do the same thing your profile's programs. Anyway after you get to where you browse for the thing you are going to shortcut to browse to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Then OK out of that till you have this shortcut on the desktop. Then drag this folder down over your Quick Launch area. Now you can get to the programs in there by just left-clicking on that folder. If it is still on the desktop after you drag it into the Quick Launch area just delete it.

Hi,

George, you know your stuff, and you beat me to the punch. I guess I would have to come in
second on Jeopardy. dang!!!

Also another way to use the Start programs is to do this:

Start
Programs
point at the one you want
right mouse it and drag it off onto the desktop
it will ask if you want a shortcut of it
click Yes or OK
left mouse it and drag it on top of the start button.
When you click start, it will be at the top

Thanks for your prompt response. I tried it and it works.
It's a good alternative to my problem.
