Desktop Icons Permanently Highlighted

Hi,

After a recent Windows Update, I noticed that all my desktop icons appear
highlighted as if I had drawn an elastic band around them. This has
persisted beyond shutting down and rebooting. Any idea what might be causing
that? It's only happening on the desktop. Any icons in other folders (e.g.
Control Panel) display as normal.

Thanks

Try one or more of these changes.........

(1) Right-click desktop > Properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web
Uncheck all the boxes in "Web Pages"

(2) Right -click desktop > Arrange Icons by > Uncheck "Lock Web Items on
Desktop"

(3) Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings (in Performance)
Make sure "Use drop shadows under icon labels on desktop" is checked

(4) Put a .bmp file as your desktop wallpaper (you can get it if you try and
use an animated gif for example)

Thanks very much, Jon. The first two in combination fixed my problem. If I
go back and recheck the top box on Web Pages, the problem comes back. I'm
puzzled that I never had the problme even though that box was checked. Is
there an explanation for that?

Thanks a lot for your help.
