Desktop icons get re-organized...

Brad Pears

I don't know how many times this has happened but it is starting to pee me
off a bit. I have a bunch of desktop icons I use on a regular basis and I
have positioned them on my desktop in logical fashion for me... About once
every two weeks it seems, I'll log on, and they will all be re-organized as
if you did an "auto-arrange" or something... I then have to go about the
whole process of re-organizing them again on my desktop...

Question1 : Any ideas as to why this happens?
Question 2: Is there any way to save a file after I have them arranged
properly so that if this happens again, I can simply restore that file?
Obviously I would have to make any changes to that desktop file if required
after it has been restored...

Thanks,

Brad

There are several freeware programs that can do this, such as "Save My
Desktop" at

Run the edit on Kelly's site:

Line 188: Add Save & Restore Desktop Layout to Menu

This adds two entries to the desktop right click menu to save the layout
and restore the layout.

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.
