Desktop grid

Anyone know how to change the desktop icon alignment grid settings? Pre XP,
"align to grid" just arranged them neatly but wherever they were. XP also
spaces them out, which moves them too much for me. Perhaps there's a utility
somewhere that allows the spacing settings to be changed?

You dont need an extra utility.
Go to control panel> display settings> Appearance >Advanced
and from the ITEM choose ICON Spacing (horizontal) and decrese that, then
change Icon Spacing (vertical) and decrease that too.
Press ok and ok..... sometimes you need to reboot to see the new settings.

Thanks for the suggestion - but doesn't that change all icon spacing in
folders as well? I just want to change the desktop.
