DataGridView binding problem/theory question

I have a problem with a DataGridView and I'm not sure if I'm even using the
right terminology to ask questions. I admit that my experience with the DGV
is somewhat limited.

This DataGridView is bound to a BindingSource which in turn in bound to a
datatable. There is a button outside the grid to call a function to update
the datatable to the database.

My problem is this: I've noticed that changes I make to an editable cell do
not get saved to the database unless I first select a cell in another row
using the mouse. In other words changing rows insures the saving of changes,
changing cells does not. (Otherwise the original values from the database
get restored to the grid.)

How do I programmatically make a CellLeave the same as a RowLeave?
