Created new personal folder - cannot find original personal folde

While exporting my contacts, a window came up to create a new personal folder
which I did. Unfortunately, I had saved all my important e-mails in the
personal folder in many sub-folders - none of which I can find. Have I
permanently deleted all my files?

You've left out far too much information for us to tell what you actually
did. However, it is highly unlikely you lost any data. You appear to be
viewing the PST file you created by exporting only your Contacts, so of
course there would be no emails. Your original PST file is still on your
hard drive. Why you are no longer viewing it only you would know. Just open
each PST file on your hard drive until you find the one you were using
before.

For these and other reasons, exporting and importing are never a recommended
way to transfer Outlook data. What were you trying to do in the first place?

I had a similar problem to Celia, in which I seemed to have lost (misplaced
all of my folders. I was gettinga "no transport provider" message when I was
trying to send messages. I went on on-line support, and it suggested that
this problem may be caused by corruption in the Personal Files. it
instructed to go to Control Panel/Mail and then REMOVE the existing file and
ADD a new one. I did so, and when everything came back, all of my saved
messages were gone. Am I screwed????

Thanks Russ. I'll try that, although the more we look at it, the more it
appears that I have actually lost all my personal files. When the system
prompted me to "create a new personal folder", it seems to have substituted
the older personal folder with the newly created one.

I was exporting the contacts and then copying them to disk so that the other
staff in the office could import them and update their contacts. Isn't that
the right way to do it?

No. Outlook's export and import routine is too unreliable and difficult to
use (as you've now discovered). Use it only if you need to convert Outlook
data to another format.
To transfer Outlook data to another Outlook installation, just copy the data
you want to transfer into a PST file, then open that PST file in the other
installation.
As bad as it is, I've never seen Export and Import lose data from the source
file. I'd wager your data is all still there somewhere. You just got lead
down a path that no longer has your original data viewed in your current
Outlook profile.

Hardly. Like Celia, your original data file is still there. Since you
removed it from your profile and created a new data file, of course you no
longer see your data. Just open your original data file using File > Open >
Outlook Data File...

FWIW, "No Transport provider" rarely if ever means a corrupt PST file. It
means your mail account is corrupt and needs to be repaired or reconfigured.

Russ, I don't know how to copy my contacts to a PST file. If I want to copy
all my contacts onto a disk - can you tell me how to do it, step by step?

Copy your Contacts Folder and Paste it into this PST file.
Close this PST file. Make sure you know the name and location you gave it.

Russ, when I try this I get a message "File access denied. You do not have
permission.....".
