Hi Guys,

What is the best way to create an attendance register. The register to keep
a log of the people that I work with that attend work on a particular day and
also keep a log of the people that are away. The log is to be seen for a
month or two.
Is the best way to use an excel spreadsheet??

Is there such a database that has already been developed??

Please help me!!

Cheers,

i'd recommend Access rather than Excel. if you're keeping a simple tally of
who is "here or not here" on any given day, for a specific group of people,
you can do it pretty easily. for a simple demo database, go to
http://home.att.net/~california.db/instructions.html and scroll to the
"demo" link at the bottom of the list. after downloading, make sure you
change the file extension from .bak to .mdb *before* opening the file. you
can use the demo as is, modify it to suit your needs, or just study it to
get ideas.

Thanks Tina,

I also think that a visible register over a time frame of say 1 month is
required so the user can easily see who was attending and who was not, if
they have paid and who has not etc on the same sheet/form.

The database you provided only highlights on a particular date, is there
such a database that would allow the user to see the people attending over a
one month period ?

many thanks for your input!!

I guess I was hoping you could impart more knowledge onto me!!

I was hoping you could say there was a database that already does this!!

Many thanks if you don't know of any,

Cheers,
Ian

not offhand, no. any template or demo db that you find may not have exactly
what you need in the way of table setup, or forms, or reports. these
"pre-made" databases are useful in that 1) they give you a basic functioning
structure that saves you time, in that you don't have to build the db from
the ground up, but can customize the existing structure to meet your needs,
or 2) they give you a structure to study to give you ideas, and perhaps some
direction, on how to build your own database from scratch.

of course, you could get lucky, and find a template that meets your needs
completely, without tweaking. there are templates that come with MS Access,
more templates available on Microsoft's website, and you can find templates
by googling, something along the lines of "MS Access database template."
good luck.
