corrupted registry

system froze on aol...rebooted machine....now error
message displays "xp could not start because the following
is missing or corrupt:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG\SYSTEM....instead of using kb article 307545...xp
was installed again to a new place on the same
volume...startup has multi boot options with corrupted
version and new version...however in the new
install...receive unable to open file, restricted error
messages...any suggestions?...thanks

If these are files from the account in the corrupted install folders, you
will need to take ownership before you can use them.

there was not any permission set up...just a straight
install...will this kb still apply?

Ed

Yes. You will have problems accessing those files and folders, even if you
are using the same name for the account on the new installation and even if
you did not set up special permissions on the old account. Taking ownership
should resolve the problem.
