I'm really hoping someone can help me. I ran a norton scan
on my home pc and it found a virus called
W32.HLLP.Spreda.B (also called savenow)It had not actually
infected my computer yet. It was quarantined. I followed
the diretions on the norton site to remove it. At the end
of the directions i was instructed to edit the registry. I
followed all directions to a t and thought all would be
well when i restarted. i was wrong. My computer isnow
stuck in a continuous booting loop. The farthest it ever
gets is the black WINDOWS XP screen that shows windows is
loading, then it makes somne noises and starts to reboot.
It does this over and over and over again without stop. I
don't know what to do!!! Is there anyone out there who can
help me? The dirctions i followed are at the link below.

Hi Naomi.

Can you boot the omputer into Safe Mode?

Turn on the machine and start tapping the F8 key rapidly just as soon
as the first information of any kind shows on the screen. Keep
tapping it until the Windows Startup menu appears and choose Safe Mode
from the startup menu.

Did you also follow the instructions in that article about disabling
System Restore?

If you can start okay in Safe Mode then open Control Panel - System -
Advanced and click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery
(bottom) section.

In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
Automatically Restart to clear it. Click on Apply and OK as needed to
exit.

If you had disable System Restore then shut down and restart normally,
otherwise launch System Restore from the Start Menu (Accessories -
System Restore) and choose the most recent available restore point.
When the restore is completed then shut down and restart normally.

Good luck

i cant get into safe mode. the only thing it lets me into
is setup (f1) Any ideas?

Your only hope at this point would seem to be to do a Repair Install
of your Windows XP following the instructions at
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

The Repair Install will preserve your installed programs, user data
files, and configuration settings. However all Windows Updates will
have to be installed.

Note that if your Windows XP is on a "System Recovery" disk provided
by the computer manufacturer then a Repair Install is probably not
going to be possible. The only option in that situation is to use
the System Recovery disk which will wipe out everything on your hard
drive and put the computer back to just the way it was when you first
purchased it.

If this is not acceptable to your because of data files that you need
to recover and which you do not have current backups for then post a
response back here and we will discuss options for getting the data
off of the hard drive.

Good luck
