Computer shuts down without warning. When surfing the
internet my Sony laptop shuts down without warning.
Almost always when I run a household fan on the computer
it keeps it from shutting down. Could I have to many
processes running? I checked the CPU and I have 47
processes running in the background. That is after I
have restored my system using the system restore cds.
Can I eliminate some of the processes......are they
causing the problem?

Sounds like your overheating.
Try just witching it on and leaving it (dont touch it). If
it turns off its overheating. A nother good sign is the
underside is very hot. Take it back to the shop if its
under warenty or always keep the fan on it.

Heat is how we locate defective electronics. If heat causes
a problem, then the naive want to cure symptoms by "more
fans". Reality is that if heat is causing an intermittent
problem, then a hardware problem exists that typically will
get worse with time.

Does not matter whether you run one process or 1000.
Everything must work just fine. Heat is probably finding a
hardware problem. Heat processor up more (run it in a 100
degree F room) and run diagnostics. Any minimally acceptable
computer manufacturer provided extensive diagnostics for
free. Find and fix the problem now before it starts causing
real problems later.

That computer should run 1000 processes in a 100 degree room
without any problems. If not, you probably have a hardware
problem that will only get worse.
