computer hangs after updates install

Help! I have reformatted and reinstalled XP 5 times now. Everything runs
great until all of the Windows updates are complete, then when I restart my
computer, it hangs big time -- 3 min. 30 sec. to get into 'my computer'. I
thought it might be a software conflict so I tried reinstalling - only
installing the operating system and the drivers for my on-board sound that
for some reason XP can't see. Still happens. What is going on?? If I
uncheck all the startup options in msconfig I still have the problem. I'm
going crazy looking at the flashlight!!!!!

Have you tried updating the BIOS on your motherboard? What about the
firmware on your video card?
