New computer with xp sp2 and we keep having problems with computer hanging,no
monitor signal. This is the fourth time in 2 weeks this has happened, computer
shop where computer was brought is on holidays till 23rd January so they're
no help. This time we tried to restart and No signal's sent to the monitor
at all. There's no beeping from the computer and no scrolling white text on
the screen to show it's booting.IT seems to be in idle mode.have tried
booting from windows xp cd DVD drive will not read it. have just downloaded
boot file for 3 1/2" disk from microsoft and will try soon. Am on old
computer at the moment.

Any suggestions tips?

I don't quite understand what is happening when you try and power the
computer up. Do you see or hear anything that might indicate it booting or
is it dead, no fans or anything? If you hear fans and it sounds as though
it boots but there is simply no signal to the monitor, try reseating the
monitor cables in the connections or adjusting the video card in the
motherboard. If you don't hear your fans running then you probably have a
power supply problem or a switch failure. Anyway, your first step is to
determine if it is a hardware or software issue.
