Click sound effect

Suddenly over the last few days I no longer hear
the "click" sound effect when I click on a link or button
in IE. I've tried fiddling with the volume control, but
that didn't help. All other sounds seem to be working
fine. Can anyone tell me what may have happened, and how
to fix it?

Check what sound file is associated with the sound events defined in the
Sound applet in Control Panel.
 
Change the sound to something else.
Control Panel-Sounds
"Start Navigation" and "Complete Navigation" are the relevant items.
