CheckDisk starts running at every Windows XP Home Startup.
It never finds any errors! Why is it so? Can it be stopped
from running unless there is a REAL need?
Has anyone experienced the same annoying event.
Can anyone help?

This issue can occur if the System registry hive or the Software
registry hive is damaged.
see whether a volume's dirty bit is set. Sets a volume's dirty bit. When
a volume's dirty bit is set, autochk automatically checks the volume for
errors the next time the computer is restarted.
Syntax
fsutil dirty {query | set} VolumePathname
Start>Run>CMD>fsutil dirty query X:[X=drive letter]
if dirty then:-
start>Run>CMD>CHKNTFS /?
[CHKNTFS displays or specifies whether automatic system checking is
scheduled to be run on a file allocation table (FAT), FAT32, or NTFS
volume when the computer is started].

Looking in the Registry the BootExecute entry
is;"autocheck autochk *"..... does this means run chkdsk
at next startup or NOT? the utility "fsutil" indicated the
disk in NOT DIRTY.
Any other suggestions?

Do not have any HP devices installed, fsutil indicated
disk NOT DIRTY

Any further suggestions?

.

Fsutil dincated disk NOT DIRTY.
CHKNTFS indicates volume FAT32 and NOT DIRTY.
Registry entry indicates "autocheck autochk *"; does this
means RUN or DONT RUN chkdsk at startup.
Have downloaded utility as per your suggestion, but nor
yet executed; running unknown registry altering programs
left as last resort.

Any further suggestions?

Hi Nevio - No, that doesn't indicate a "run at next start". It is the
normal, correct non-run entry. (BTW, if you ever do need to reset it from
some other value to this in order to stop a "run at restart", be sure to use
Regedt32 (not Regedit), as this entry is a type REG_MULTI_SZ which needs
Regedt32 to handle.)
