Change Access db from read-only when sharing

Can someone help me sort out a problem: I created an Access database
(using the wizard), which I need to share with someone from time to
time. Using this database, I created a mail-merge document in
Publisher.

When I sent the db to my friend, he couldn't add anything to it
because it was read-only. When I look at the file under Explorer,
there's another file with the same and the file type is Microsoft
Access Record-Locking Information.

Is this because of the mail merge I created? How can I change it so
that db isn't read-only when I e-mail it to my friend?

Thanks,

How did you send the database to your friend?

If you copied the database onto the CD and sent the CD to
your friend, he needs to copy the database onto his hard-
disk and then remove the Read-Only flag of the copy on his
hard-disk before he can add / edit data.

Files copied onto the CD are automatically flagged as Read-
Only because CD is supposedly a "Read-Only" medium.
The "Read-Only" flag is carried through when you copy the
files from CD to hard-disk (unless the OS is designed to
automatically remove the "Read-Only" flag).

If you open Access then go to File, then Open, locate the database and
highlight the name (do not open it). At the bottom of the file search window
is a button that reads "Open". If you click on the small arrow beside that,
it will give you the option to open exclusively, which should help.

Also, if you did like I normally do and zipped it to send, it, he has to
extract the database to his computer before he can make any changes or use it.
