I am a LAN Admin for a small company. Of the 30 machines
I am responsible for I have one of them that cannot
access certain websites both internal (companyweb) and
external (cdw.com). These sites are reachable from all
other PC's. All PC's are configured the same. XP Pro
SP1 with plenty of disk space and RAM. We have an
WIN2003 Server doing our DNS lookups. (the pc is
connected to the domain with no problems) I can do an
NSLook up from the PC in question and have the DNS
resolved, but the page will not load. I have renamed the
hosts file to old hosts and no change. I have changed
all the settings to defaults and cleared the cache, but
it still does not load the companyweb or cdw.com
websites. There are no websites blocked in the security
settings. The firewall software internal to XP is
disabled. I have ran Norton AV 2004 and found nothing.
I have ran Adaware with the current configuration file
and found nothing. I am trying to get around
reformatting this workstation, but am running out of
options...There has to be something causing this unique
to this PC but I just cannot find it.

Everynow and then the msnbc.com home page will not
load. 3 out of 10 times or less. All other websites
are accessable. I havent tried changing the home page to
another site and seeing if that intermittant problem
duplicates itself. I didnt consider that an issue as the
page always loads on a refresh, but i mention it anyway
just in case the two problems are related.

Being unable to browse to the companyweb sharepoint
services thing is becoming an issue for this user as the
sharepoint becomes ingrained into our company culture.
This user still says he cannot access certain sites like
cdw.com, but can access others with no problems. It
doesnt appear to be an SSL problem as other sites using
SSL work just fine.

I am open to suggestions here. Again its just the one pc
out of 30 or so and they are all similar hardware
software configurations.

You might want to diable your nortons and install a
different virus scanner. I have done this on numerous
occasions to find a virus that Nortons has no idea is on
the pc
