cd/dvd drive not recognised

when i put a cd/dvd into the drive,the egg timer comes up and nothing
happens, if i put a cd in and go to 'my computer' it is not on the cd/dvd
drive at all, just the normal picture.

Is the cd drive recognized in the BIOS?

I dont know if i need to start a new topic but since this was here
thought I would see if I could get some info from someone. I wa
playing a game last night and I think it crashed, I restarted th
computer and when it came back up i looked in my computer and both m
CD-RW, and DVD drives were missing completly. The only removabl
storage device that is there is the floppy drive. I looked in BIO
on start up and in my divice manager and it showed both drives there
I decided I was going to get a new drive. I wanted a DVD-RW anyways
So I get that installed and I still have the same problem. Ha
anyone heard of this before? Im really lost and I really dont wan
to bring it to a repair shop, I just dont have the money to do tha
right now. Any info would be nice. ty in advanc
