cant log into XP Pro with more than one user at a time

have two accounts --one of which is a guest acct--on my WinXP PRo machine
(latest patches) yet I can only log into one acct at a time. IOW, before I
can log into the guest acct I must first log off the other acct. What
registry bit do I need to flip or other action do I need to take o fix this
problem.

Why are you bothering with the guest account anyway? Create a Limited user
account if you want another account on the machine.
the guest account is VERY VERY limited in what it can do and is not meant
for permanent use.
 
Control Panel, User Accounts, Change the way users log on/off and enable Fast User Switching.
