Can't install SP2

Got a worm/adwart/spywart. Reconfigured computer and not sure done properly.
I thought it was supposed to be "factory fresh" when finished but see that
some of the things I had set up before such as correct date, times I had
picked for scheduled updates, times I wanted antivirus programs to run were
the same when they should have been erased. Then I tried to run all updates
for Windows (have media center w xp pro) and was able to do all but Service
Pack 2. It downloads, but half way through installation a window pops up
saying, "Access is denied!" Tried 3 times but no change. Can anyone help?
Have I reconfigured properly if those things are happening, why can't I add
SP2 and why is it denying me access?Thx-Vickery
