Just to follow up - If the downloaded version of ie6setup won't install
(which is possible), then try method 1 or method 2 here:

Dear Regards, Jim Byrd MVP,
been there done that but no matter what I try to install XP service pack 2
is always a latest version do it exits! Bo choice but I really hate outlook
and am finding it hard to stay loyal to Microsoft the way they seem to have
set things up! Shall I seek an alternative that will allow me some control
over my own emails instead of unilaterally deleting supposedly extra line
breaks? FOR A START! Then it runs out of mrmory if I try to recover emails I
once had in Outlook Express but imported to Outlook and archived! WEIRD
MAN!!! What has MICROSOFT DONE?

Hi DOSrelic - I think we need to review the bidding here - Can you give me a
clear, concise statement of exactly what the problem(s) you are seeing
is(are) and specificially what steps you've taken so far?

Why do you think you need to "get" OE for SP2 (e.g., OE isn't working & you
want to reinstall it)?

CrystalBall© sez: Start here:
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm#crash

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm.

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- WinXP SP2 only: If your machine is fully up-to-date at Windows Update,
installing the following patch (KB918766) will help to avoid such data loss
in the future:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=86b68a78-f325-4a95-98c2-98af2256ccc3

This patch will be included in the next Cumulative Update for Outlook
Express/WinXP SP2.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

I woulld like to thank all that have attemted to help me solve such a
ludicroud problem! After my 4th installation I have been able to get
notification of the replies and it finally appears to be working fine! Of
course it has OLEX6 so why was I so perturbed? I have learnt many things like
how to get the briefcase out from it's hidey-hole (run syncapp) and how to
get rid of Windows messenger! Still, 66 critical updates that must be
retrieved just to be ensure that your computer is secure and save from those
dastardly hackers!
My appreciation of your attention is devout guys. lol
