Cant do hardware test HELP!!

Ok im confused....

i go into control planel click sound and audio devices
then on the tab i click Voice then i go test hardware
then it doesnt work the green bar fills up but then i get
an error

An error ocured during DirectPlay Voice setup. The error
code is 0x80004005.

whats that mean and how do i fix it

Go to Start, Run and type dxdiag in the box.

That will give you the full info on the DirectX components installed
on your system. Look at the bottom of the first page at the version.
Is it the current version -- 9.0b?

Look at the other dialog boxes and see if there are errors reported.

You might need to install the newer DirectX version, or reinstall the
version you've got. Or your sound card is so old that it does not work
with the version of DirectX that you have installed. I have a 5 year
old machine and if I run the sound components in the dxdiag the system
freezes.
