Can't delete icon???

P

Pedro

Guys,
Using XP Home.

I've a friend who recently purchased his own computer has by accident
allowed an icon to be installed on his 'Start', 'All Programs' list at the
top where the "Open New Office Document" "Winzip" etc icons are located. The
offending icon is called "NOCREDITCARD" and is obviously a porn dialer. Easy
enough I thought, either uninstall if it has loaded software or just delete
the icon from the start folder.
Thing is the icon doesn't appear in the start folder though all the
others do and he can't delete those icons either. So we can't delete the
icon or any icon at all from the "All Programs" area.
His logon is as an administrator.

Anyone have any ideas?

Pete

PS. Sorry for the crosspost, google gave me nothing.

Ohhhhhhhhhh!. Hit a kiwi nerve have we? That's good. I can't help myself - I see kiwi and I have to get the wooden spoon out. It's a character failing.

But we love our little kiwis really..

PS I live in bondi, and during the 80s this was the largest kiwi suburb (and bondi and bondi beach used to be our family farm till 1853). So in the 80s all my friends were kiwis. That gives me the right to stir them.

Sorry, 1851 we sold the estate to Edward Smith Hall editor of the sydney monitor.

He's tried that. All the icons listed in the top area, includinig
Winzip don't give an option to delete them. He has administrator
rights too.

We can't find the offending icon in the start folder either.

Go figure.

When you right click on them, do you have a "properties" option?
If so, select it and it should show you the actual location of the file.

Have you checked the files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu
? The Start Menu is a combination of the items in All Users and the actual
user profile, so you might, with luck, find them there.
