I thought it was a simple problem with a simple answer
that just eluded me. But my problem seems not only to
boggle my mind, but also the mind of everyone else on
this board.

When using chat rooms, any chat rooms, my system either
freezes or completely reboots itself at random times.

I have checked as instructed, and have the lastest
versions of my chat site software, the latest jave
version, and my computer is NOT set to reboot on system
failure.

There are no error logs made on my event viewer, and no
other indication it ever happened.

As always, your help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S.
I have also noticed that since this became a problem, I
can no longer boot directly to the desktop, but instead
to the log-in screen which has had only one identity.

Thanks.

Hi,

"Freezing" is generally attributed to failing or suspect hardware. WinXP is
very sensitive to flakey hardware. Outside of swapping in known good
components, the most you can do is a software test on the ram. If you want
to check the memory, there is a free program here:

As to your other problem, start/run "control userpasswords2" (without the
quotes).

Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok and follow
the prompts to set up a default logon.

Thanks for the reply. But, now I have a new problem. I
changed the user password settings as instructed, and now
my computer can't load a .DLL file and I cannot reset my
monitors resolution beyond 800x600 and 4bit color.

I also ran the memory diagnostic and as I expected
everything passed.

My chat problem is software based, NOT a hardware issue.
The only time the problem occurs is during my time in
active chat rooms.

Thanks.
