I recently bought following products:
Broadband router SMC2404WBR
PC card SMC2435W

I have two PC systems:

Desktop PC running with Windows XP Professional and LAN
adapter Laptop PC running with Windows XP Professional and
PC card SMC2435W (internal LAN adapter is disabled)
Further I have a cable modem supplied by ISP.

I have successfully installed the router and my desktop PC
is working fine for Internet connection via LAN.
My Laptop is also working fine when I use the internal LAN
adapter but once I installed the PC card SMC2435W I have
following problems:

- DHCP is not working at all, no IP address will be
assigned, no access possible.
- If I configure manually TCP/IP to 192.168.2.101 and
gateway 192.168.2.1 then the PC card is able to access the
network, e.g. I can ping all TCP/IP addresses and also I
can access my desktop PC files but Internet connection is
not possible at all. I checked all setting and used the
troubleshooting instruction for Internet setup but no
success. The MAC is not the problem, as the WAN MAC is
fixed by the router.

Now my questions where I hope somebody can help:
- Why is DHCP not working via wireless but via LAN DHCP is
OK?
- If manually assigned TCP/IP address as per above
wireless system is working fine but why is Internet access
denied although it works on my desktop or when I use LAN
connection on my laptop instead of wireless?

Please help with any clue, I am really getting tired after
trying so many times without success.

Finally I could fix the problem and it might be
interesting for all others having same or similar
problems.

Actually it is a winsock 2 problem and it can be fixed
perfectly if you follow:

Life without Bill and his guys would be so boring by not
having always windows trouble.
