I am running XP Serv Pak 1 with IE6.0.2800 xpsp2

I cannot disable script debugging on IE6 and get frequent
script errors on pages that otherwise run ok on Opera 7.2

What is the fix??

TIA,
Tony

Tony,
Most of the time this is just errors on the web site ..... not your end.
However some ad-blocking apps will cause this (script error) when the ad or
banner fails to display.

Internet Options | Advanced
Select: "Disable script debugging"
Uncheck: "Display a notification about every script error", click Apply\Ok

Verify these Registry entries exist and are correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Disable Script Debugger"="yes"
"Error Dlg Details Pane Open"="yes"
"Error Dlg Displayed On Every Error"="no"
"NoJITSetup"=dword:00000000
"NoWebJITSetup"=dword:00000001

Note: always Export before editing .....
[or]
Download the latest version of Windows Script 5.6 for XP\2K
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...43-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en

Try installing that and see if it helps with your problem.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately nothing helped.
I tried everything including installing the new script.

This has to be an IE6 specific bug because the error
does not occur with Opera 7.22 browser.

If you have any other suggestions, im all ears :)

TIA,
Tony

Tony,
Did this problem occur in all "profiles"? (including Administrator)

Hi Mike,

I only operate one profile on this machine, the Administrator.
I cannot imagine I am the only person experiencing this
error (turning script debugging off and not turning off) on IE6.
It must be a false positive error too as the script on the
page in question renders properly.

Since the same page renders without errors on Opera 7.22
I must conclude IE6 has problems.

TIA,
Tony

Create a new profile and see if the same occurs .......
Note: you should NOT use the Administrator account for general usage.
"turning script debugging off and not turning off) on IE6"
Do you have any Office components installed, that is loading "mdm.exe"
Look in Msconfig | Startup (mdm = Machine Debug Manager)
It must be a false positive error too"
These errors (not really a error) occur when the script *expects*
something to occur and it doesn't. Firewalls, AV apps with
"script blocking" can cause these errors. There are also a few
"ad blockers" that will cause this also.

Hi Mike,

First, thanks for trying. I setup a new profile
and it made no difference. Since this only
happens on a few sites I am going to give
up on trying to fix it; plus, I have Opera
and I get no errors using Opera on the
very same pages. The irony is I never
had this problem with IE5.5 Thank you
Microsoft! lol

Cheers,
Tony

Tony,
The script error(s) may just be from the website itself.
Do you have a few examples where this happens?

Mike,

The very same website causes no errors using
the Opera Browser. It is obviously NOT a problem
with the script running on the website.

Its something local to my machine as using IE6
on friends PCs gets no script errors.

In any case, as I said, its a minor agrivation
and I can live with it.

Thanks,
Tony

Not proved. Make the Opera Browser see the same datastream
that the IE6 browser sees. Or make the IE6 browser see the same
datastream that the IE5 browser sees. To do that you need to change
your User Agent. I believe you could use ProxOmitron to do that.
There has been a recent change in the registry which prevents you
from simply changing the User Agent value.

As Mike said give us a sample URL to analyse.

Thanks for the tips. When I have extra time I
will investigate this more thoroughly. I downloaded
that web filter, it seems like an interesting and
useful utility to add to my toolbox.

The site in question is: http://www.x7chat.com/X7Chat/
The error only occurs using IE6 when I login, enter a room
and Message myself. Doing the same with Opera causes
no similar trouble. Logging in from other machines on
our LAN, with any browser, causes no trouble. Which
is why I suspect it something local to the one machine,
mine.

Thanks for all the feedback
Tony
