Cannot open Windows Explorer

I can no longer open windows explorer by clicking the windows explorer icon
nor by typing in "explorer.exe" in the run box.
How can I fix this please?
I can still access my folders by clicking on a folder icon, e.g. in the
desktop, and then clicking on "folders" in the explorer bar.

I'm sure others will provide a good fix. But for now, if you can get to your Desktop, double-clicking in My Computer will run Win Explorer.

More info from you: Is this a home computer or in a corporate-type setup? Presumably you are the administrator for this pc?
Did you or anyone else change or add software? maybe add/change hardware?
Do you have an antivirus program? which one & is it always on? any other programs running at pc startup?

This is a home computer. I remember adding a blue tooth mp3 player which
installed its drivers + Musicmatch jukebox but not really sure if this is
the cause.
I'm the administrator for this pc. It's running Kaspersky Antivirus and
Microsoft Antispyware.
