Recently, I suffered a disk crash. Rather than try the odious rebuild and
potential loss of data due to a restore/rebuild, I purchased a new hard disk
with the intention of recovering the Outlook Express 6 email from the dead HD
at a latter time.
So, two weeks later, I managed to recover the Outlook Express email folder
from /.../identites/yadda-yadda-yadde-etc-adnaseum folder on the dead drive
and copied them to my desktop in a folder called RECOVERED. I can see all the
email in there listed in it's .dbx format. So far, so good.
When I launch Outlook Express 6 and select "IMPORT", and select "...from an
OE6 store directory..." and either with/without checking the "Only import
mail created with OE6..." box selected/unselected, I can browse to the
folder, but when I try to open it, I get "File in use by another process..."
I disabled Symantec AV Corp Edition 9, but this didn't help. The foder and
recovered files had their properties changed from READ ONLY to not read only.
My system: WINXP Corp with SP2 and all updates upto Saturday March 05, 2005.
I have an Athlon64 3000+ with 1GB of Dual Channel RAM on an ASUS A8V Delux
motherboard.
Help!!! Before I go insane....
