Hi,

This is the 3rd time I have asked this question and I have yet to get an
answer, It is re: the lsass.exe,
I have seen several times that people have been advised to remove this as it
is a worm but as the info below states it is a Microsoft product, how is one
supposed to differentiate between the 2? Any help one this would be
gratefully appreciated.

"lsass.exe" is the Local Security Authentication Server. It verifies the
validity of user logons to your PC/Server. It generates the process
responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service. This process
is performed by using authentication packages such as the default
Msgina.dll. If authentication is successful, Lsass generates the user's
access token, which is used to launch the initial shell. Other processes
that the user initiates inherit this token.

all true but are you having shutdown problems on your computer? The Sasser
Worm is the culprit. The message about lsass.exe having a problem is the
symptom. You don't remove that. You get rid of the sasser worm and run
windows update to be sure you have the security fixes in place. Here's a
site with some explanation.

Hi Bud,

Thanks for the reply, no I am not having a problem, I was just curious as I
have this lsass, exe on my computer, and wanted to know if it was a worm.

Thanks Again

This is probably the third time you have been answered! READ THE MICROSOFT
BULLETINS ON LSASS.EXE! Are you lazy or WHAT????? All you had to do is go to
www.google.com or www.microsoft.com and type lsass into the search line! For
C(*^&$ Sake! Can't you realize this group is HELP AND SUPPORT, not EDUCATION
FOR LAZY PEOPLE !

If you have up to date Virus Detection software, it will not be a
virus. How many copies of the file do you have?

Cheers,

Cliff

EXCUSE ME? What the ---- is your problem, if you have nothing constructive
to say Please don't bother Moron!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, I only have the one, the only reason I asked the
question in the 1st place was because, I seen a few people on here tell
someone it was a worm, so I checked my system and seen I had it, so I looked
on Google, and found out that it is a genuine Microsoft product so I was a
bit confused on how to tell the difference, but I thank everyone for their
help, BAR, HELLO WORLD, What an Idiot, again I thank you for your help.
