Is there a utility out there that will tell me if it is worth upgrading
the operating system on an older computer of mine to Windows XP (Home
Edition)? If there is, where can I get it? I have an IBM Thinkpad Celeron
machine that is currently running Windows98 Second Edition.
Thanks.

Well, I've run W2000 Advanced Server, and Exchange, on an old Thinkpad.
Recommended? Probably not, but it worked for my purposes at the time. That
said - make sure you have RAM. 256 at minimum, 512 *my* minimum recommended
size.

Make sure you get the latest drivers/etc - download them somewhere and keep
them handy.

And personally, although upgrades-in-place to WinXP are usually fine, I
prefer clean installs when I'm going from Win9x...you can still insert an
upgrade CD and just choose the option to do a complete install rather than
an upgrade. You'll of course back up all your data elswehere first...and
you'll need to reinstall all your needed software afterwards. I've just
found this to be a lot better, especially on older machines.
