Can I move a hard drive with Windows XP installed into another computer and still boot?

Hi... I recently bought a new Pentium 4 and ASUS (P4P800) motherboard in a new case to upgrade my old computer (AMD with ASUS motherboard). I took the hard drive (120GB with Windows XP installed) and CD drives from my old computer and installed them into the new one. I started up the computer and went into the BIOS to check if all the hardware I installed were recognized and they were. Rebooted to bring up Windows but then I would get the menu to select 'SAFE MODE', 'SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING', etc. Whichever option I would choose, the PC would just re-boot and then back to the menu again. I took the new PC back to the shop where I bought it and explained the problem to them. They tell me that because I am moving a hard drive from one type of motherboard to another, I will have to re-install XP all over again, meaning, I'll have to reformat and re-partition the drive. Is that true?

unfortunatelly yes, it is true.. the hd has all the configuration settings from your old pc and even though you can boot in safe mode, the existing operating system is confused by the new hardware.. sorry.. :) robert
