Over the holidays, a friend installed a new version of XP on a clean hard
drive, on my daughters machine What he did was copied her huge 3G hard drive
<g> to this new drive & installed XP Home version. I noticed there is a
folder with several Windows 98 .cab files & wonder if I can delete these?
Any help is appreciated.

Yes. They're the Win98 installation files. Not needed or used in XP

hi Doug,
you can safely delete win98 files, and other applications that are copied in
the folder you copied to.
