bugs trashing my system

I recently became the lucky recipient of some virus which
my norton did not detect. I was unaware that my firewall
was turned off, and have been plagued with problems for
the last week. My biggest problem is that I am unable to
use my microsoft outlook email to type more that two
words at a time before the curser vanishes or an
advertisement window appears. I have had many files on my
computer lock up, or will not open using any program I
have. I am constantly getting emails from microwsoft
about my email, but do not open them. I belive that this
is how I got the virus in the first place was a fake
email from microsoft that contained the virus. How can I
fix this problem? I would delete everything from the
harddrive but I am a graphic designer, and cannot afford
to lose some of my work that is still on the drive. I
will not save it to cd because I do not want to transfer
the virus to my other computer.

it sounds pretty bad, is your virus up to date, if it
isn't better do it and find out if it will detect the
virus. If you have access to the internet you get scan it
with www.symantec.com, is free and they also have removal
instructions for most viruses
