I have a PC running Win 2000 Pro, and the MoBo cooked a
diode. I took out the HDD, put it in a 'new' system (AMD
K-6 266 with 256MHz RAM), and now it won't boot. Gets to
the 'Starting Windows' screen, then goes back to the
POST. It loops like this continuously. Same thing when I
try to boot in Safe Mode etc...anyone have any ideas?
(besides a new system...)

Would an in-place upgrade work in a case like this?

Boot from the w2k CD >> select "Install..." >> when it detects the existing
installation, select REPAIR.
You'll need to reapply updates and service packs.
