boot failure: system halted

When I start my pc up I get a black screen at the
beginning (after a brief descriptor of my graphics card
and a quick Intel logo) with the words: boot failure:
system halted.

Can anyone help me in correcting this or has anyone
figured this out? Originally I was getting a message
telling me it couldn't find a network to boot off of, but
I fixed this by turning Remote Boot off in the Bios.
Thanks!

Hi,

I am newbies. If i am not wrong, you were inffected with
virus name sobig32F@mm. Because i am facing this problem
recently.

Please go to symantac website and find the way how to
remove this worm.

Hope this can help.

One crazy thing to try as I have been getting a similar response...

While holding in the <ctrl> key and the <alt> key repeatedly hit the
<delete> key. Yea thats right, a modification of the 'three finger
salute' ;) Actually this works for me, I have no idea why but after
pounding on the delete key a couple dozen times or so the XP login
screen *wakes up* and prompts for a login.

If this doesn't work and you can't boot then perhaps its time for a
*full* reinstall of XP. If you can find a way to recover your documents
first then great but do format the drive to remove any 'SoBig' type
stuff remaining. Its a tough nut to swallow but there it is. Why people
get their kicks damaging other people's property is beyond me, I guess
I'm just too old to understand. Displaying ones prowess at programming
by doing wrong shows only a surly child pretending to be an adult. Back
in the day, ones prowess was displayed by programming a killer utility
or app.

Good luck,
John
