black and white line on monitor

I have a friend who installed service pack 2 - xp.
he now has a black line on one side of his monitor and a white line on the
other....only on the desktop. word and internet are fine .
Ant suggestions?

Wow, that is strange... Try re-installing or updating the
video driver. Hopefully that will fix it.

In fact, now that I think about it. First re-boot and go
into safe mode (while re-booting hit F8 and select 'safe
mode'). See if the lines show up. If they don't its more
than likely a driver problem. If they do then I'd try the
monitor on another computer, but I doubt thats the
problem.
