I have a DELL Inspiron 8000 laptop and recently upgraded the BIOS to the
latest version. I have no floppy, so DELL provide a hard drive solution.
Since upgrading, I'm having problems with various functions and want to
downgrade. Their software won't allow me. If I download the floppy version,
is there a way to flash my BIOS with it without a floppy drive. Some sort of
special software perhaps? I am asking DELL this same question but my machine
is out of warrenty and they're very slow at responding. I am using XP pro.

Typically there'll be a README file or some such with the BIOS flash. The
answer may be in there.

Was there a good reason to flash your BIOS? Please say it was for
some other reason other than you found out a newer version was out
there.

I've got the same problem each time I wish to flash the BIOS on my
Toshiba laptop which has no floppy. The solution is to create a
bootable CD with the flash BIOS routine executable on it. Nero or
EasyCD\DVD will create a bootable CD easy enough, however, the
bootable CD you need must also have the flash BIOS info on it to
execute automatically.

See if Dell has the flash BIOS boot disk and information available as
an ISO file. That would be the easy way. If not, you'll have to
create your own using Nero or EasyCD\DVD.
