I have a DELL Inspiron 8000 laptop and recently upgraded the BIOS to the
latest version. I have no floppy, so DELL provide a hard drive solution.
Since upgrading, I'm having problems with various functions and want to
downgrade. Their software won't allow me. If I download the floppy version,
is there a way to flash my BIOS with it without a floppy drive. Some sort of
special software perhaps? I am asking DELL this same question but my machine
is out of warrenty and they're very slow at responding. I am using XP pro.

Try clearing the CMOS useing the jumper pins on the board, then instal
as you did before, the desired version.

I don't fancy taking my laptop apart. Besides, I don't know if they have
CMOS clearing jumpers.

Ask a friend with a burner and a floppy drive to make a bootable CD for you,
use the floppy version as the boot image.

Perhaps a better approach would be to try to solve the problems with the
'various functions'?

Nice idea, but the various functions are hardware related thus only the BIOS
can retify them.

Thanks. I'll try that.
