BACKUP to external CD Burner

BACKUP will not allow me to access my external CD 'burner.' The only option
given is to a 'floppy,' which, of course, is ridiculous. I am using a Compaq
Presario 'notebook,' series 1200. Is there a 'trick' I need to use to
backup to CDs? Thanks. CGS

I've not used XP-backup and am no expert as to the matter, but as far as I
understand the floppy asked for is just to record details of the backup.
The actual backup data cannot be sent directly to a CD-drive but has to goto
a HDD or Tape-drive.
Thus you could backup to a HDD and then manually copy to the CD-drive, but
complication would arise if the 'backup' was larger than the CD's size (need
'spanning' software).

In 'Help and Support' you will find nothing usefull under 'backup' or
'restore'.
Thiere is however some information under search string "ASR" (Automatic
System Recovery).

The "trick" is that you need a 3rd party imaging program to backup to CDs. I use TrueImage from www.acronis.com HTH.

BTW you can use the built in program to write the .bkf file to a 2nd HD or tape drive.

Backup instructions clearly state that you cannot backup to CD - you
must backup to HD first then write the backup file to CD
