backup in window xp system tool program

I use the microsoft xp backup to backup file onto an external drive. When I
click the backup files, it gets me into the backup and restore wizard that
does not have an option to open the files(the only options are backup and
restore). Is it the backup files can only be restored onto the computer? I
could not find a way to open the files. Is it the backup files are different
from the files that I copy onto the external drive. For the files that I use
the "copy and paste" to copy onto the hard drive, I can open it but not the
files I made from the backup program from XP. Is it a way I can open the
files and use it s? Thanks

Run the backup program using the Restore option.
Select the files and/or folders you want to open.
Look for the "Restore files to" box at the bottom of the Backup
Utility.
Select "Alternate location".
Enter or Browse to the location you want the files saved.
Once the process is complete, you can go to that location and
open the files.

Good luck
