P|ROBLEM:

Backslashes and pipes are inserted when \I type. |As soon as \I press
the "shift key|" the pipe is inserted.

Attempted resolution|:>
Driver update from \Kensington|: |Kensington-||K64353.exe 949kb.

I shut off the computer for three hours yesterday and they immediately
returned.

Before, I thought it was because |I left the computer on overnight - not
so.

'sys' not found
'sysinfo' not found
'msinfo32' does not permit copying therefore I cannot paste that info
here.

I left the pipes and removed the backslashes |(most|) so the message can
be read.

Hi, Johann.

Is there any chance you have your microphone turned on and feeding random
sounds to a voice recognition program? This often results in random
characters being inserted during typing. I haven't heard that it limits
itself to just backslashes and pipes, but...

Is the keyboard new? Has it been cleaned recently?

About six (6) weeks.
Has it been cleaned recently?

No.

OS: XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1
File system: NTFS
RAM:: 256MB PC2700 (shared -32MB for video)
Virtual Memory: [SET] 334MB on d:\ (Partition)

Compatibility Check indicates . . no problems.

Programs Running:
MSN Messenger
OE with Quote-Fix;
My ISP;
AVG 6.0;
Kensington Mouse 7.40

msinfo32 indicates:
(1. Keyboard - Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft . . .
(2. driver -c:\windows\system32\drivers\i8042prt.sys {5.1.2600.1106
{xpsp1.020828-19207} 49.88 KB {51,072 bytes} 11.05.2003 7:28AM

(3. Pointing Device - Kensington PS/2 Port Mouse

Downloaded and installed: Kensington-K64353.exe (949kb) yesterday.
Did NOT resolve the issue nor set "Kensington" as the keyboard.

Installed new batteries. Did NOT resolve the issue.

Pipe Symbols are inserted when I press the *Shift* key.
Backslashes - *God knows*. They just insert and run rampant.

I have removed the Pipe Symbols and overwhelming Backslashes from this
message, as I was "disciplined" - by a MVP . . privately.

**No Microphone

Your forthcoming assistance and positive resolution is appreciated.

Hi, Johann.

Well, I've got only a couple of guesses left, then.

First, does the problem clear up if you swap keyboards - or computers? In
other words, does this keyboard behave properly on another computer? Does a
similar keyboard play nicely on your computer? There's always the
possibility, of course, that this keyboard is defective and the
vendor/manufacturer should replace it for you.

Second, any chance you're mixing languages? English drivers for a German
keyboard, perhaps?
